GSC has revealed details about Update 2.0 for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 and announced the price of the first DLC

The Zone is changing—and this time on a much larger scale than after a typical patch. GSC Game World is preparing a major 2.0 update for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, titled “Return to the Zone,” which will be released on August 20 at 4:00 p.m. Kyiv time. The update will be free for all owners of the base game.

The developers have decided not to limit themselves to cosmetic improvements. The update will affect the game engine itself, the visuals and atmosphere of the Zone, as well as how it behaves in day-to-day gameplay. Additionally, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will gain new mechanics that fans have been waiting for since the game’s release.

GSC has already revealed some of the planned changes in a special article titled “Return to the Zone.” At the same time, the developers have kept a few new features under wraps—players will only see them after installing the update.

The update will be released simultaneously with the first expansion—Cost of Hope. Thus, on August 20, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will receive two major reasons to return to the Zone: a free, large-scale update and new paid content.

The area will become livelier, more dangerous, and more atmospheric

Update 2.0 will significantly change not only the visual appearance of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, but also the behavior of the Zone itself. GSC Game World has completely overhauled the lighting system: the sun, shadows, and reflections in open areas will look more natural, while dungeons and indoor spaces will feature more realistic lighting. The team has also updated the landscape and vegetation, fixed hundreds of visual glitches, and resolved issues with objects floating in mid-air.

Significant changes have also been made to A-Life. Stalkers and mutants will no longer stay in one place—they’ll travel more frequently between areas, seek out resting spots, and interact with one another even when Skif isn’t nearby. The developers have also fixed a number of NPC behavior issues that previously made the Zone seem too static.

For those who find the standard difficulty too easy, a “Custom Rules” mode will be introduced. Players will be able to customize specific survival settings on their own. In addition to this, the “Master” and “Expedition” modes will remain.

The arsenal hasn’t been overlooked either. The game will feature three types of binoculars, new weapons—the Arev, GP3A, SKP, and “Fora-230”—and additional sights. Players will also be able to shoot with offset aiming without a red dot sight.

There have also been atmospheric changes. Fog will now affect not only the visuals but also the visibility and audibility of enemies and stalkers. “Light rain” will look more realistic, and the appearance of bloodsuckers and plights will depend on the region where they live.

New content is just days away: Kyiv stalkers are invited to search for artifacts at “Silpo”

GSC Game World is already counting down to the release, and there are only three days left until the DLC launches. After its release, the expansion will be available as part of the Ultimate Edition or can be purchased separately for $29.99 / €29.99 / £24.99. Regional pricing will apply in certain countries.

The development of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 and its expansion took place during Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, which continues to this day. GSC Game World has continued to support Ukraine since the start of the invasion. The studio is also part of the ecosystem of the Ukrainian investment holding company ARS Capital, founded by entrepreneur Maksym Krippa. The company operates in the fields of technology, game development, esports, and digital media.

Meanwhile, a real adventure awaits Kyiv’s stalkers. On August 22, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Silpo store located at 12a Berezneva Street, you’ll be able to set out in search of artifacts. Hidden among them are 50 keys to the Ultimate Edition.

Winners will receive the edition, which includes the base game S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, the Deluxe and Ultimate Edition bonuses, a Season Pass featuring Cost of Hope and a future expansion, as well as an app with the official art book and original soundtrack.

A separate photo zone will also be set up for participants, where they can meet other fans of the Zone.

Important: This promotion will take place only at this Silpo store in Kyiv and does not apply to other locations in the chain.

So check your gear, stay alert, and set out in search of your artifacts. In the Zone, you never know what’s waiting around the next corner.
